Day Of Surgery

To help us meet all of your needs, please follow these guidelines:

  • Bathe or shower prior to your surgery.  Remove all makeup, and do not use lotions or oils after bathing.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing such as sweat suits and easy-to-button shirts or blouses that are big enough to accommodate a large bandage after surgery.  Wear comfortable shoes with low heels.  Please remove all body piercings, including earrings.
  • Leave all valuables, including jewelry and cash, at home.  We cannot be responsible for damaged or lost property.
  • Bring a list of all of your regular medications (including dose, frequency and purpose) with you on the day of surgery, both prescription and non-prescription.
  • Be prepared to sign a form giving your consent for the operation.  If the patient is less than 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must accompany the patient and sign the consent form.
  • Bring all insurance cards and your driver’s license with you to the surgery center.  See the section on Financial for more information.
  • Arrive 60 minutes prior to your scheduled surgery, unless directed otherwise.
  • Once you arrive in the Pre-Operative area, a nurse will provide you with a patient gown, slippers, and a locker to store your clothing.  We will also check your temperature, blood pressure, and pulse and ask you to empty your bladder before surgery.
  • Your family member or companion will be asked to wait in the surgery center’s waiting room.  The surgeon will speak to your family member or companion immediately following surgery.
  • Female patients between the ages of 12 and 50 years old may be asked to provide a urine sample prior to their procedure.
